Whoever first decided to combine images and sounds was frankly a genius and deserves the sloppiest blowie ever conceived by man (What blog is this again)? What they did was very reckless but very brave and I have the utmost respect for them.
I started doing script writing during the pandemic when the most interesting films were the ones in my head. I still boast the fact that I wrote a couple nice short stories, and even a play! But genuinely the best part of it all was scoring the words to music. To a story about a suburban cowboy, a soundtrack of outlaw country. To a story about dead-end hometowns, a soundtrack of only the angstiest shoegaze. To a story about sci-fi drugs, a soundtrack of dirty dirty dirty JUNGLE BEATS.
All that the WORLD has ever seen of this hobby is held within my youtube vidz. I take a lot of pleasure in finding the perfect music for those. What my COLLEGE has seen of this hobby (heard?) is my recent stint on college radio. Making mixes and spinning them up on air. Sometimes there’s a story behind it, or a theme, or goal, but I let the songs speak for themselves.
The best setlists carry you through them, with all the ups and downs. You can’t feel the rush from a fast one without a build-up. Sometimes you need 17 minutes of IDM before you can bust out with a REAL song. Sometimes you need to back 17 minutes of dirty dirty dirty jungle beats up with some chillerz.
Lately I watched some Sofia Coppola for the first time, and discovered you can have an overreliance on music in your movie. But props to her for getting her shoegaze playlist in a major motion picture starring Bill Murray. All she needed was for her dad to be the most famous director ever. If my dad was the most famous director ever I would probably do the same thing. Also did you know she acted in the Star Wars prequels? Maybe she learned how to do soundtracks from John Williams, cuz Episode 1 had some good fucking songs.
Okay music rant over. Shoutout KBVR. I said goodbye to the booth, but you’ve helped me actualize a very personal hobby. The world will hear your beats forever. You’ve been good to me poochie. Zoom. Ba.
Just for housekeeping: Did you notice DBDSU has some new features? The tabs have been organized differently, to make it more "scholarly"! All of the blog posts are now nicely sorted in the "Library" across a variety of topics! I have also updated my linked Backloggd in the "More Reading" tab and my portfolio in the "Cartography" tab! Check it out students!
