Geography of a Mansion is a very important project to me which I’m happy is finally out. I’d like to talk a little about how, and why I made it… If you’d care to listen…!
Okay, thanks for caring to listen. I was a bit of an iPad kid growing up, which sucked (and continues to suck), but it means that Youtube and games are both practically in my DNA. As soon as I got this creative outlet of a blog, it felt natural to combine the two concepts and… Presto! My Rain World video was born. But in hindsight, there were lots of things I could do better. The edits were sparse and the audio quality was lackluster. But believe me, that was the warm-up round for Geography of a Mansion!
I tried to emulate a certain style of youtube video without losing my own identity (all my videos are “from the heart”). Now there’s jokes, quicker cuts, pre-recorded gameplay clips to chuckle at, and multi media segments! It's pretty hard to script jokes, but I hope some landed for you anyways! I tried to make them suitably corny for this kinda thing
The idea of the live action segment came to me on a sleepless night after recording all the other footage and I was like “fuck it.” The original ending was more of me talking over gameplay footage, but I decided that this special project needed a special ending! So, at like 3 AM on a Monday, the Gaming Professor was born.
Misc. tidbits: I recorded all audio in my closet. The camera in the last scene was held up by 12 books, and the face lighting came from “World of Horror” on my TV screen. The original script had a lot more edgy jokes about cops which I cut... All the poetry (see more in the full gameplay vid) came straight out of the early 2000s from Fanfiction.net. I didn’t mean to make color synergy between all my Youtube thumbnails but it looks pretty cool. I might make another video but not for a while. This one took ~4 months… Probably too long.
