Rambly dambly ideas and stuff on the brain:
Motifs are cool and I like to use them in my writing. Sometimes it can be really fun to reference something near to your heart that you made. In Life is Change I mentioned waves lapping at my door. That was a reference to a poem I wrote for a girl in high school that was super cringy and I’d rather not think about in 2025. But nothing’s to stop me from recognizing & referencing the good parts of it! Pulling a real Gregory Berrycone.
Kinda similarly, I think it’d be cool to have a catchphrase or just anything that’s signature “me.” When people tell me that I remind them of something (Or vice versa) I get so excited my stomach gets upset. Like yes thats me! Self-definition OMG there you are!
Following the train of thought, it’s a bit scary how the way I define myself is based on other people’s perspective. Sometimes I just take it to be true without much thought. If someone told me “You seem like you’d be into stamps” (I’m not), I’d probably just accept it and start collecting them. Much easier than accepting that nobody knows myself better than I do…
